Civil Assist were engaged by Gisborne District Council to create a forward work programme for the footpath renewals for the next 10-year period. This involved an inspection of all footpaths in the region (from Matawai to Hicks Bay), an assessment of condition and a prediction of the most appropriate time for renewal. All accessways between streets and cycleways were inspected as well.

In addition, Gisborne District Council required an assessment of the existing maintenance defects in the footpath assets to achieve a pro-active approach to managing network condition and customer experience.

Civil Assist used a transportation combination of walking and electric scooter in order to complete the inspections. A specific Traffic Management Plan was required for the scooter use.

We love to help our clients, in this case Gisborne District Council, achieve safer footpaths for safer communities – we’re fully aligned in this space!

This project was managed by Zaria Weatherhead, with support from Andrew Lawton.
