NZTA (New Zealand Transport Agency) engaged us to find out which culverts along the State Highway 35 are difficult for fish to pass through. Obstructions for fish has likely resulted in significant restrictions for the fish population. In cooperation with other stakeholders we inspected 114 pipes, including surveying the number and species of fish and what barriers they face in their journeys under the highway.
This project was closely aligned to one of our core values of protecting the environment and all forms of life.
In this case we were able to use our expertise in surveying, mapping and engineering – all for the benefit of our native fish species!
This project was managed by Marcus Koll, with support from Andrew Lawton and Wildlands Consultants.
